Short bio

I was born in Trento and received the Laurea from the Università degli Studi di Trento in 1985. Then I moved to the USA, where I received the Ph. D. degree from the California Institute of Technology (Caltech) in 1990. I am full professor of Computer Science at the Faculty of Science. My main professional task is to organize with my colleagues research initiatives in the area of reactive search optimization (RSO) and intelligent optimization heuristics, computer newtorks and services related to traffic and mobility, and new international curricula in Computer Science, ranging from Laurea Breve (B.Sc.), to Master and PhD program .
I am the director of the LION lab: machine Learning and Intelligent OptimizatioN .
I am a Fellow of the IEEE (class of 2009).

Univ. of Trento first among Italian universities in recent research evaluation and funding allocation (in Italian, 2009). Trento is number one in Italy for research productivity and funding (in Italian, 2006). An article about the quality of students in Trentino (in Italian, "dieci e lode" is the highest mark).
